Glamping in Hawaii - Tree House, The Big Island
Accommodation: Tree House at Volcano
During the second half of our Big Island trip, we stayed at the Tree House in Volcano. This is the first time ever we slept in a tree house and we totally loved loved the experience. The tree house was built by owner Skye (who is super friendly and nice!) about 25 years ago. He built the tree house with recycled materials, an eco-friendly, solar-powered paradise in the forest. The tree house is set on tops of the ohia trees, over a lawn of hapu'u fronds. We particularly love those large windows all around and above the house, which enabled us to enjoy the lush fern forest views from our kitchen and living room and watch shooting stars from our bed. In addition, the tree house is equipped with proper bathroom with warm shower and well-stocked kitchen. So there is really no inconvenience on that front.
The location of the house treehouse is really good too. It is about 5 miles away from the Volcano National Park, 1-hour drive from Kalapana, where you can go lava viewing, 40 mins drive from Hilo, which is the 2nd biggest town on the island, where you can do helicopter rides and visit waterfalls.
The kids loved the whole experience of sleeping, eating and playing in the tree house. If we ever visit the Big Island again, we would definitely book it again.
Hope you like our adventure in the tree house. There is still more to come! I know!!! There is so much to see and do on the Big Island. Stay tuned!
