Stunning New United Airlines Polaris Lounge at SFO

The lounge that we have been waiting for is here -- United Airlines has finally opened its highly-anticipated new United Polaris lounge at San Francisco International Airport.

The new lounge is enormous (two levels with 28,120 square feet of lounge space!!!), bright and beautifully done! It will host business class and Polaris first class passengers. What the new United Polaris lounge offers is not merely space for the passengers to pass their time, but an experience for rest and relaxation before their next journey. The most comfortable ride in the sky really does begin on the ground here.

They have 440 seats in the lounge to cozy up in 19 different styles, including day-beds. The bespoke cubicle-style "signature" chair and table was actually designed to mimic the efficient cloistered feels of United’s new Polaris Business class seats on its jumbo jets. United CEO Oscar Munoz mentioned that United will be adding one plane to their fleet every 10 days for the next two years with the new Polaris seats.

The lounge has eight spacious spa-level shower rooms, equipped with towels from Saks Fifth Avenue and natural, luxury bath and body products from Cowshed.

The on-site laundry and valet facilities can help you get your shirts cleaned or steamed during your stay. Toiletries, warm towels, slippers, and pajamas are provided, of course.

The second level of the lounge is even more impressive. The lounge is lined with windows, which have expansive and impressive views to the runways, bay and South City. A grand bar area with a backlit Onyx countertop can host about 20 guests. The drink menu includes local cocktails, like the Trader Vic's Mai Tai (an East Bay original), and plenty of California wines, including popular Prisoner blend as the house red. Beer drinkers can taste local staples including Anchor Steam from San Francisco, Drake's from San Leandro, and Lagunitas from Petaluma.

However, the food is my personal favorite part of the lounge. There is just. So. Much. Food. Options include a full buffet/Bistro, which has assorted finger food, a ramen noodle bar, a Chinese congee station and an amazing selection of dessert to satisfy pre-flight cravings.

Still hungry? You can also pull up a chair in the lounge’s dining room and enjoy a multi-course sit-down meal from a menu packed with delicious dishes from local San Francisco chefs. However, the most unique and unexpected space in the lounge is what United calls "The Studio," This amazing activation space would be perfect for demonstrations, events, pop-up wine tastings as well as other gatherings.
